Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

What a fun activity!

We read the story together as a class and then students broke up into groups of 4 and worked collaboratively and individually to create shapes.  Some students just copied the designs they saw on the idea cards but others had more confidence and created something completely new!

The students enjoyed it so much that the requested the sets be left out so they can use them during a recess STEAM Ahead program.

I look forward to doing this same lesson in the years to come.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to connect literature with STEAM activities.

What will be done with my students

After reading the book, The Perfect Square by Michael Hall, the students will explore with Tangrams. Their task will be to work collaboratively to create 2 dimensional objects using the various shapes in the Tangram set.

Benefits to my students

Students will become familiar with the different shapes and discover how shapes come together to create objects. This is a perfect STEM exploration for primary students who are not ready for complex activities and directions.

Budget Narrative

These supplies are not consumable so they can be used for many years to come and benefit hundreds of students.
