Original Grant Overview

Goal

I am a new high school teacher and would love to build a classroom library for my students. My goal is to bring high-interest novels to my English classroom. These books will engage students’ interests and provide the ability for my students to critically think as they read and analyze text.

What will be done with my students

The new Florida B.E.S.T. standards encompass reading prose and poetry and reading across genres. I would like to have a variety of novels that students can select to encourage reading the various genres and poems. Students will use these books for literature circles and class discussions. Students will create projects based on the novels to share with their class. These can include but are not limited to reader’s theaters, story maps, and one-pagers. These culminating projects align with the new curriculum and standards.

Benefits to my students

Having a classroom library will provide a space for students to become stronger readers and promote and encourage independent reading. The purpose of this grant is to support high-quality reading instruction in my classroom. Using the funds from your organization will allow me to purchase books for a class library. Having these books available will encourage students to have deeper thoughts about literature and provide titles that students can relate to and engage with! Thank you for your consideration in donating these funds to my English classroom at Naples High School.

Budget Narrative

$248.00 will cover the cost of 25 books to start a classroom library for my high school students.
