Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 1200

The goal of the collaborative art project was for the OakRidge Middle School community to be a part of the schoolss beautifucation initiave.  The children were able to see the magic that happens when they work together in groups to create art. During Art class students came up with a collaborative design ocean fish and created each fish/ocean animals using clay. Once the pieces were put on the wood forms, they learned the technique of "mosaic" to create 6 panels to be place on the wall of the school as a permanent art installation. The students were involved with all of the decisions and process of designing, creating, and the installation of the murals. The most impactful outcome was that the students were able to feel/inspire other students to create together to work on a permentant art work that shows their legacy. Murals are an artistic dialogue serving to provoke and inspire present and future student populations.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of the collaborative 6-8 grade art project is to help children see the magic that happens when children work together.

What will be done with my students

The students during art class will come up with ideas for image that can use the technique of "mosaic" to line the walls of the school as a permanent art installation. The students will learn and be involved with all of the decisions and process of designing, creating, and the installation of the
murals.

Benefits to my students

Murals are a Form of Communication. Art projects come and go. Murals are here to stay. They are a legacy, a means for students, staff, and stakeholders to communicate from generation to generation. Murals are an artistic dialogue serving to provoke and inspire present and future student populations. Murals speak to school bodies.
