By using the Kahoot technology game, my goal is for 3 classes of math students to to become engaged in academic content, which will increase their learning and test scores.
Kahoot is an online platform that empowers teachers to engage and motivate students, increase participation in class and virtually, and assess learning. Teachers can create games, puzzles, polls, slides, and quizzes via this academic platform and not only have students access this content in a fun and engaging way, but it can reach into all of the classrooms on the team. Students can collaborate individually, in pairs or in teams, to complete academic content. Teachers are able to personalize learning and view data reports to assess learning progress of the class and get analytics for formative assessment.
There are many benefits to the students. One benefit, is that kids love playing Kahoot! There is 100% engagement. The game is fun, fast-paced, and is designed to engage each and every student in real time. ALL students compete in a safe, anonymous environment. Another benefit is that there are a variety of question types that will be able to reach the different learning styles. A third benefit is that it does not just have to be used as a game, but can also be used as an assessment in a less stressful way! A quote taken from a Kahoot article states, "Among the studies included with statistical significance tests, 70% showed that Kahoot! significantly raised students’ final grades or test scores, compared to other teaching methods.".
