Teachers and students will engage in the creative process of costume creation. Using a script and their imaginations, they will be able to create, assemble, and maintain costumes for any given production. Over the course of a year, theatre classes and drama clubs will be able to build costume collections for their own school-based productions which should grow with their programs. Students will also learn valuable skills such as character analysis, color theory, historic research, budgeting, and time management. Other life skills that students will learn include laundry, ironing/steaming, basic mending, and proper use of a hanger. Working with costumes is often a wonderful, creative outlet for students who enjoy fashion, film, and theatre.
1. The 3-in binders will serve as the Costume Binder for a given production. This binder will include the measurement for each actor, the specifc designs by actor/scene, the costume budget, costume collection plan for each piece.
2. The sewing kit include the basics for maintaining costumes - thread, needles, scissors, etc. Students will be able to utilize the kit throughout the costuming process.
3. Measuring tapes are essential for taking accurate measurements of actors. This two-pack set will make the process move more quickly.
4. The page marker tabs are needed to identify each actor's collection withing the binder: measurements, design, pieces, budget items, and potential repairs.
5. The tags are used to identify the contents of each costume hanger. They are labeld by actor and scene. Depending on the production, one actor could have several hangers - each one designating a costume change.
6. This 72 page book includes sewing basics and elements of historic costumes. It includes machine and hand sewing information.
7. The storage case is the two compartment box that will hold all of the other items. Each case is plastic with carry handles. This makes it portable for the classroom, stage, and shopping.
Nineteen of each item (except costume tags) have been included so that I, as the teacher trainer, will have materials for classroom & teacher instruction. I will be taking my kit from school to school, supporting classroom instruction and production design.
