A Champion for Learning - $380.14
Our goal is to make nice, soft, warm blankets for children in need in our community (Immokalee). We want these children to have nice blankets to keep them warm, and to comfort them during their time of need.
We will make at least 20 No-Sew fleece blankets to donate to Project Linus. This entity is in charge of blankets and other donations that go to shelters in Collier County, specifically in the Naples and Immokalee areas. Each student will have a goal of finishing at least 2 blankets by April 2024. We will attach a caring note to each blanket and then hand them to Project Linus for distribution. Our project is part of the Student Leadership Program (Leader in Me) in our school.
My students will benefit by working in something that will make an impact in their community. This project will inspire them to cooperate and to empathize with less fortunate children. It will instill a sense of pride in their work and it will validate their leadership roles. All through this process they will have to make decisions, work as a team, and create deadlines for themselves, in order to reach their goals. Students will be responsible for the good use of their time and materials. These responsibilities will encourage them to become more focused, to believe in their capacity to lead, and to appreciate others.
1 Fleece no-sew blanket requires 2 yards of fleece.
I also want each child to have their own fabric scissors so they can keep them after we're done. This will encourage them to make more at home (hopefully)
The masking tape is required to show the pattern.
The cards will be personalized, so that each child receiving one gets a caring message from the student that made their blanket.
