The student engagement with the Kleen Slates is remarkable. Engagement with math practice and phonics practice is 100%. Students who may be reluctant to practice a skill that they are struggling with will take a risk with the Kleen Slates. The opportunity to correct their work, add to their work, and revise their thinking is quick and easy. They also love to use their Kleen Slates to provide positive feedback for their peers, as well as to self reflect on their learning.

I am beyond grateful for this grant. It is not a "consumable" so I'll be able to use with future classes.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will have the opportunity to respond to lessons in an engaging, hands on way with their own hand held personal whiteboard.

What will be done with my students

Students will use their own personal whiteboard to show what they know in math as well as in all subject areas. This tool provides an equal access opportunity to all students. It is beneficial as a start up to lessons as well as an "exit ticket" to check for understanding of content recently covered.

Benefits to my students

Students who may be hesitant to participate are more likely to take a risk and show what they know with their own personal white board called a "kleen slate". With each response, the student quickly has a "kleen slate" and an opportunity to correct, modify and revise their thinking with a quick wipe off of their board.

Exemplary work is easily visible to students who lead their learning by sharing with their peers.
