Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 402

The number of students impacted through this grant increased as my caseload increased.  It was a blessing to be able to impact additional students. I was able to help students manuever their way through identification of courses, standarized assessments, concordants, graduation requirements and post-secondary planning and goal setting.  The individual packets were easy to identify when setting up individual and group meetings.  Students were easily provided with what they needed immediately, no second guessing which information pertained to which grade level.  This also helped in providing parents information physically rather than electronically-some parents preferred to have hands on copies rather than digital data.  Students are knowledgeable now in areas where they had little to no involvement in their prior school.  Now they have knowledge of how to incorporate their current activities and with their future plans.  Students are able to set realistic goals and boundaries with this organized system. I have been able to implement with my caseload and it has spilled out into other counselor's routine.  The colored forms are used by my department chairperson to identify individual documents needed by specific grade levels.  Students are better informed which is providing them with more productive time schedules and setting themselves up for success.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students enrolled at Aubrey Rogers High School will be able to identify courses, standardized assessments, concordant assessments, overall graduation requirements and determine post-secondary goals and actions needed to be successful throughout high school and post secondary.

What will be done with my students

Students will meet with me individually to determine which graduation requirements still need to be met. They will receive a grade appropriate, and color coded graduation checklist, indicating which goals have been met and those still needing attention. Students will be well informed of testing dates and assisted in determining which date(s), best suites their schedule to sign up and take the ACT/SAT.
Pull out sessions will be scheduled to help the students register for the ACT/SAT, take their picture for their admission ticket (as needed) and print out the ticket if necessary. Pull out sessions will be handy in helping the senior (12th grade), student to apply for the FSA ID, needed to apply for financial assistance and post secondary institution scholarships. The student will be informed and instructed how to apply to the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA), college options in-State colleges and universities, vocational schools, scholarships, community service and the overall requirements.
Students that have specific post-secondary goals in mind, will be assisted in researching their individual school and track needs. Out of State of Florida options will also be discussed as student show interest.

Benefits to my students

Students at Aubrey Rogers High are at risk of dropping out as in any other high school throughout the District. However, being a new school, integrated with students from other middle and high schools, this process of identification and observation, is a way of making sure that detailed, individualized attention is provided with deeper attention and direction. No student will be left behind.
Students are provided with realistic data, which helps them develop a better vision of their current situation, get to each other in the hope to develop a trusting relationship with them and their parent/guardian, increased availability and future possibilities of success.
A well informed student has a better chance of developing into a productive and successful member of society.

Budget Narrative

The colored paper will be purchased in four different colors to easily identify student grade level during credit check and for files, which will be accessible to other counselors and administrators.
