Goal

STEM Bins encourage students to create, invent, and explore by using problem solving skills. Science is the ability to solve real world problems. How students can do that is by using their creative and logical thinking skills, while also enjoying the process. This ability to use mental focus and logical thinking will help students not only in science, but across all areas of study. 

What will be done with my students

The Science Bins will be set up in a science station. The bins will be used in a variety of ways. One way will be a teacher guided model where students will create an engineering task that will be given to them. Another way the bins will be used is in cooperative groupings, where students will work together to create an science/engineering project. The last way these bins will be used is by self exploration, where the students can use their creativity to develop their own STEM project. 

Benefits to my students

Some of the benefits of STEM education are: 1. students can collaborate with students to solve real world problems, 2. it encourages students to think more creatively, 3. promotes and encourages curiosity, 4. it could help prepare students for careers in the STEM field.

The items above will be used in a Science Station, one of each set in two of the 6th grade science classes.
