Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

This grant impacted 16 students with special needs in the general education classroom. My students enjoyed having a choice of seating options to help them stay engaged and focused during small group instruction. One student liked being able to bounce, which helped center him on instruction.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to harness the power of fidgeting by implementing different seating tools to help restless students learn in an inclusive classroom setting. Movement in the classroom has been shown to improve focus, retention, and memory consolidation.

What will be done with my students

I have always tried to find ways to implement movement in the classroom in non-disruptive ways to increase learning engagement. Several of my students have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and other disabilities that can benefit from the power of movement. I can provide flexible seating options for students to support their learning in the general education classroom.

Benefits to my students

I support 18 students in the inclusive general education setting. Students can feel empowered by having a choice and control over their learning environment with flexible seating. Flexible seating allows them to quietly fidget and relieve anxiety, allowing my students to become more engaged and focused on learning in the general education classroom.

Budget Narrative

To support students in the general education setting with a variety of flexible seating options for students with disabilities. Students can pick or try different seating options that benefit them and their learning and focus needs.
