Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 300

Students have been working tirelessly to earn their brag tags for their Reading Counts points. It has been amazing to see them walking around with them on their lanyards. They are so proud of what they've learned and make sure to stop me in the hallways to ask me when they're getting their next one. Thank you so much for supporting this initiative and for the improvements you've made in our Reading goals.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to increase the love of reading by boosting our reading incentives program to even larger than last year!

What will be done with my students

As a school, we read almost 20,000,000 words last year! We had students earning hundreds of Reading Counts points and we want to keep that going!
Students earned "milestones" throughout their Reading Counts journey. This was recognized on the morning news, with certificates, and prizes for each level of milestones. Prizes include a treasure box, bookmarks, snacks, tie-dye parties, and end-of-year parties! They were so excited to get their names called out on the news and to come down to the media center to get their prize and certificate. We saw huge changes in our students that read consistently and want to add even more encouragement to those that were hesitant.

To add even more fun to the milestones, we would use these brag tags and incentives to reward students for reading and accomplishing their goals. The brag tags would be provided at the different levels of milestones in addition to the other prizes. It would be so fun for them to be able to collect these brag tags on their lanyards.

Benefits to my students

The benefit to my students is that the more the read, the more proficient they'll become. We know that not all students want to read for fun and that incentives can help encourage more reading. Let's get more of our students reading!

Budget Narrative

These items listed in the budget would be the brag tags (10 different styles) for 10 different milestones and the rings that they would be able to put them on. The budget includes "I love to read" bracelets as their first milestone prize.
