Goal

These devices will be used as a hands-on demonstration of content specific to the nervous system of the human body, as students proceed in a 3 year Biomedical Science Program at Naples High School in Naples, Florida. This program is part of a certificated NAF Program designed to prepare students for careers in Health Sciences.

What will be done with my students

This device will be used during a lab presented by PLTW.org specific to considering prosthetic devices to replace the arm of a patient needing amputation due to cancer.

Benefits to my students

The classroom engagement in a hands on fashion is the force that pushes my kids forward, as well as bringing more kids to this program. This program, by design, presents courses aligning with health science careers in an appealing way to all. This is largely due to the shift from textbook learning to that of experience learning.

Budget Narrative

The Human-Human Interface device ($299.99) demonstrates how the action potential of a neuron can be transmitted to a different neuron. This applies to the foundational understanding of human neuron signal transmission.

The Claw device (189.99) demonstrates how the action potential of a neuron can also be transmitted to a mechanical device, as applied to a prosthetic device (which is the specific curricular content intended).
