My kindergarteners think these reading, spelling, and writing rockets are a BLAST!! I have utilized them in so many ways: whole group, small group, extra support for my ELL students, and incorporated them in challenging ways for my highflyers too. Many kindergarten students struggle to put sounds together to read and write words independently. This game was just what they needed to keep them engaged as they practiced these skills. The colorful, durable rockets and tiles can be used again and again in so many ways. Students learn best by doing and these hands-on rockets makes reading, writing, and spelling so much fun!! I am so proud of how their skills are now soaring! I also share these rockets with my co-teacher and her students have a blast using these rockets to practice their reading and writing skills too!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to use these fun interactive Reading and Spelling learning sets to deepen my students' understanding of how words work. My goal is to make learning sight word reading vocabulary, spelling and fine motor skills, letter recognition, and word association a blast!

What will be done with my students

These multi-sensory sets will be used as an extension to my reading lessons by individual students or a small groups that I want to support by reinforcing knowledge of beginning and ending sounds, segmenting and blending. The colorful picture cards will also help build my English language learners vocabulary as they are learning phonics. These sets will also be used during my literacy block by table teams or working partners. The self-checking flashcards that are included will help my kindergarteners have fun and feel successful!

Benefits to my students

These colorful and fun learning sets will excite my kindergarteners and help to keep them focused while strengthening their phonemic awareness skills. It will be a helpful tool to aid not only my struggling students but also my scholars in their reading and spelling. The letter tiles will help with letter recognition, sounds, and blending so that they can better understand how to read and spell. The durability ensures that I can use it for many years with different students. Each set also includes flash cards and dry erase markers, more material to keep my kinders engaged and having fun while their skills blast off!
