Our first graders loved doing Mountain Math every morning this year, and it has been an important part of our classroom routine each day. Students know as soon as morning news, morning meeting, or calendar activities are over its time to get out the Mountain Math page. I know I've been reminded on those days I forget! The best is when we begin a new chapter in math and I hear "oh, that's easy- we've done that in Mountain Math!". So as new concepts are introduced, students already have a bit of experience with those skills and are better prepared for the challenge. I think the spiral review it provides allows some of those skills to sink in more as they continue to see them every week. At this point in the year, we have completed all of the first grade weeks and my class begged me to "let them" try the second grade Mountain Math!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide the Mountain Math Online Review curriculum for each first grade class at GCCAS, which includes online access and printables.

What will be done with my students

Each day Mountain Math is used as a warm-up for our math block, spending 10-15 minutes. By completing a few problems a day together, all of our necessary skills are covered in one week. By the end of the year students are usually independent in completing each day on their own.

Benefits to my students

Mountain Math for first grade is a spiral review of all domains we teach throughout the year. Students get to experience those skills so they will be familiar when introduced in our primary math curriculum .

Each of our first grade teachers need a subscription for Mountain Math in order to tailor the program to their own and their students' needs. Each subscription gives 1 years access.
