Our goal is to provide all incoming fourth-grade students at Village Oaks with a P.A.N.T.H.E.R.S Binder which will be the main organizational tool to teach our students the importance of responsibility, being proactive, and becoming exemplary scholarly students. This one and 1/2 inch three-ring binder will house the students' planners, parent communication/homework folder, and pencil/tool pouches. All these organization tools in one location make it easy for our students to be prepared and organized daily for all classes as they transition to their departmentalized classes and be prepared to and from school. The acronym of P.A.N.T.H.E.R.S means we Panthers are P-proactive, A-awesome, N-noble, T-thinker, H-heroic, E-evaluator, R-rising, S-scholars.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 67

The P.A.N.T.H.E.R.S binder, along with the student planners made a huge impact on our 4th-grade students by demonstrating their leadership skills of the 7 Habits of Highly Successful Kids daily.  It also provided the students with the support needed to become well-organized, responsible, and exemplary scholarly students. The parents who participated in checking their child's P.A.N.T.H.E.R.S binder found it easy to find notes from school, what daily homework was assigned, along other types of communication from the teachers about their child.  Our 4th graders are now prepared for how a binder should be set up for multiple classes and how this well-organized binder should be kept and taken care of.  The students showed responsibility by taking care of it and bringing it to school daily in neat condition.  These 4th-grade students showed lots of growth from the beginning of the year when we first introduced it to the end of this year, where they still bring their binder to class and take it out every morning to get prepared for the day.

What will be done with my students

The students will be given their Panthers binder at the beginning of the school year with all the materials needed to facilitate regular communication with the student’s parents regarding their child’s progress in all subjects, students will use their planner by writing all homework assignments in the appropriate subject area and date daily. Any homework papers will be placed inside a purple vinyl folder in the back of their planner which will be stored in the Panthers binder to help keep them organized. Highlighters are a must in all classrooms and we want our students to have their own set as they travel from class to class. The pouches are easily accessible inside the binder and can hold the other supplies needed for the classes and home daily. The teachers will be carefully monitoring each student to see that they come into the classroom with their Panthers binder out and ready to begin their day. Homeroom teachers walk around and check these binders that are organized, have parent signatures in calendars, and any papers that are brought in or to be taken home are stored in the binder in its appropriate spot. Students will gain incentives by showing responsibility and being proactive. Our expectations for our Village Oaks students are that they demonstrate these leadership skills daily and hold them to the standard of what an exemplary scholar does to be successful in school and in life.

Benefits to my students

Village Oaks will begin its fourth year of the Leader-in-Me Program and we are teaching Steven Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids. It is our belief that utilizing this Panthers binder, along with the student planners will have a huge impact on our 4th-grade students mastering these habits and provide them with the support needed to become well-organized, responsible, and exemplary scholarly students. Equally important, is that the parents are made aware of the importance of this binder at the beginning of the year and our students show their leadership skills by presenting this binder to their family. Another benefit of keeping a well-organized Panthers binder will help prepare our 4th graders for any upcoming grades up through high school, where all classes are departmentalized, we feel we will be setting our 4th-grade students up for a lifetime of success!
