Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 312

Having Science World magazines in the classroom has been extremely helpful to me as a teacher.  Whenever I had a substitute teacher, I could assign the students to read articles in the magazine.  The articles aligned to the science standards and provide teacher’s guides and answer keys.  They provide skills sheets and pre-made quizzes to check student comprehension.

Students love to read the Science World magazine articles because it gives them a chance to think like a scientist and read articles that are current and relevant to them.  The articles ignite their interests in new topics that they either didn’t know existed or didn’t know that much about before.  The articles are thought provoking and allowed students to have discussions about current events that have science themes.  Most students do not like to read non-fiction.  They prefer fantasy and fiction.  These articles encouraged them to read non-fiction but still kept their interest while practicing literacy skills.  Students do not normally look at science as a job future but these articles help point students towards being scientist and engineers in STEM fields.
