Original Grant Overview

Goal

To entice our smallest students to explore using their sense of sight during their new STEAM class.

What will be done with my students

The light table and manipulatives will integrate with STEAM discovery units including; light, nature, dinosaurs, coding, and seasonal topics. It will be used as a center giving students to opportunity to collaborate with their classmates. The activities on the table will change with each concept making the table valuable during every class.

Benefits to my students

Light tables and manipulatives will promote letter recognition and beginning words, number recognition, counting, patterns, sorting, art, pretend play, sensory development, coding, problem solving, collaborative play,
fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, sharing, and communication skills. We will use the table for mainly Preschool through First Grade, but as we utilize this, I can envision it being used in other older grades. Lower School teachers will be able to book extra time in the space where the table will be located and will be encouraged to use it also.

Budget Narrative

This budget includes the table and accessories to create an all inclusive area centered around the sense of sight. We are developing a new STEAM program for our younger students to replace a traditional technology class. We are mindful of too much screen time and want to promote technology as a learning tool.
