Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 135

My Champion’s for Learning grant was to fund interactive notebooks for civics learning, and I was able to buy each one of my students a composition notebook. We use these notebooks on a daily basis to aid in our learning and comprehension of civics knowledge. My 7th grade students take an End of Course Exam (EOC) which is worth 30% of their entire civics grade for the year, which is a high pressure test and class. The interactive notebooks give students a place to not only record class content, but they are also able to use it in class to help them study, find answers and information to questions, as they are completing classwork.

I created a table of contents, that students will add to, as we add things to their notebooks. I also have my table of contents posted, so students are able to find the correct page for the information. We use the interactive notebook daily to take notes, complete word sorts, vocabulary organizers, and annotate text. The students are learning organizational skills and are able to keep up with class content. Theyre interactive notebooks have been so useful in preparing them for the civics eoc, by being able to look back at what we’ve done throughout the year and refresh their learning.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To purchase a composition notebook for every student in my six civics classes.

What will be done with my students

Daily in class, students will take notes, identify key vocabulary terms, create graphic representations of knowledge, to create a book of civics information. This civics notebooks can then be used to review any topic and to help the students get ready for the End of Course Exam in May.

Benefits to my students

Students are able to record and represent their knowledge in their notebook. The students are then able to go back and review the information, and use that recorded knowledge to answer questions and enhance their learning.

Budget Narrative

I would purchase 1 compostion notebook for each civics student to allow them a way to record and represent their civic knowledge.
