A Champion for Learning - $1,445.00
The goal of using the Wilson Just Words program at Seacrest Country Day School is to support students in grade 4 through grade 12 who have language based disabilities. This program will provide students with a sophisticated study of word structure. Students will learn how English works for both decoding and spelling automaticity. This system can be used by classroom teachers and learning specialists. This past year, we had great success with the Wilson Fundations program for k-3. We would like to offer the Wilson Just Words program to to our older students who have gaps in their decoding and spelling proficiency.
In small groups, students will be provided with explicit, systematic and multisensory teaching in the areas of decoding and spelling. Students will be taught the 6 syllable types and common Latin roots. Students will be given expansive practice with multiple opportunities for skills development and application. Students will be assessed for progress throughout the program.
Struggling readers will be taught the foundational language standards that are necessary to access grade level text. Those students who did not master foundational reading skills in grades K-3 will be able to independently read and spell words. Students will gain confidence in their abilities as they build upon the foundational skills in reading.
All instructional materials are included in the Just Words teacher kit. Each Just Words student kit contains durable and consumable materials for one student.
