Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 75

My students LOVED Think Theatre and wanted to continue the program! Students learned about tools actors used and used those tools during theatre games. Students gained a deeper understanding of coins as well as a real life appliation. We discussed how to earn money as well as the cost of items. Students learned the importance of saving up money and how banks work. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to any grade level. Theatre can work so well with any subject area. My students are more confident in themselves which is such an amazing thing to see. Thank you donors for making this dream a reality!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about performing arts while being engaged in the classroom content. With the Think Theatre actors, the students are using their whole body to learn. Students will have enhanced cognitive, motor, and social development skills.

What will be done with my students

The Think Theatre representatives will work directly with two classroom teachers to implement a five day lesson. As each day goes on, students are building towards a culminating project/acting piece. The lesson starts with an acting warm up. Students learn the tools that actors use ex: strong speaking voice. After the warmup, the students will incorporate the learning standard with the performance piece.

Benefits to my students

The greatest benefit to students after completing the Think Theatre residency is the real world application. For example, one of the residencies for first grade is Money Jump. In this residency, the objective is for students to, "count and recognize difference amounts of money." Students are not only learning how to count coins, they are learning how to use money to buy goods. They are also learning about being producers and consumers. Through acting, students are 100% engaged which promotes deeper understanding of the content being taught. Once students complete the Think Theatre program, they will have an advanced knowledge of the standard. According to our Collier County Public School learning targets, a "score 4" is the highest level of mastery where students go above and beyond what is expected. The Think Theatre program will not only benefit students academically, but also increase self-confidence which is a trait that is invaluable.

Budget Narrative

The two thousand dollars covers two classroom residencies. Each residency is a five day program where the Think Theater representatives work alongside the teachers to provide engaging lessons that directly relate to what students are learning in the classroom.
