Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

Culinary 2 & 3 students utilized the sandwich unit for the Mis en Place when preparing foods for the facullty.

 

This allowed for prepped items to maintaing safe temperature while allowing for easy access during preparation.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Set up a Sandwich bar Café for preparing lunch meals for Faculty that will mimic a Sandwich House workplace environment to provide WBL for the students in Culinary Arts. 

 

What will be done with my students

The equipment will be set up so that the students are working in an environment that will simulate one of the many sandwich to order shops in our local grocery stores and other chain shops in town. Utilizing the refrigeration table to organize the mis en place for production and to keep it in a safe food environment. Then to utilize the pizza ovens to quickly flash heat those food items to order when the faculty come to visit the café. This will also allow with the sale of food items to benefit the limited budget we have for food supplies throughout the school year. 

 

Benefits to my students

These students have already accomplished the ServSafe industry certification and have the desire to work while in school. Numerous students gain employment at these food service establishments around town. This is a great way to give them the WBL they will need to succeed in obtaining and keeping a job in food service. 

 

Budget Narrative

WBL for the students is key in my Culinary Arts program.
Our local food establishments need employees that are able to step in and perform the tasks they require. This will put the in this kind of environment to succeed and also assist our local food establishments with trained and ServSafe Certified individuals.
