After students have surveyed the current trends of the children at Cypress Palm Middle, they will take their results and see if their ideas can translate into 3D objects. These objects will be sold at the entrepreneurial market at the Winter Extravaganza as well as the year-long CPMarket, which is run by student entrepreneurs.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 850

Receiving the 3D printer from the Champions For Learning grant has been such a learning experience, not only for my students, but also for me as their entrepreneur teacher. What we have learned through the time we have had the printer is the following: -

-Printing and selling items that are downloaded from the internet that has been created by someone else can be an infringement of copyright laws.

-We have learned more about copyright laws and what Intellectual Property laws are, as far as 3D files.

-If we plan to sell any 3D printed items, we must learn how to create our own.

Moving forward for next year, we will be researching what the best and most user-friendly program for middle school students is, so we can learn to create our own 3D files. We will also focus on the ability to use our 3D printer to customize products that we sell at our student driven school store. This will require our student entrepreneurs to immediately conduct research in what will be trending at the start of the new year in middle school age range markets. Students will have to survey and compile these results. Students will look at cost effectiveness of products that they will create and see if the item would be more cost-effective and profitable if created using a 3D printer over other materials. Students will collaborate with each other and their consumers to produce a viable product that has a high return on investment. Students will learn how to use a 3D printer and how to take care, trouble-shoot and safely store the printer when it is either being used or stored.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

After students have surveyed the current trends of the children at Cypress Palm Middle, they will take their results and see if their ideas can translate into 3D objects. These objects will be sold at the entrepreneurial market at the Winter Extravaganza as well as the year-long CPMarket, which is run by student entrepreneurs.

What will be done with my students

Student entrepreneurs will research trends in the market that fall into the middle school age range to see what is currently popular. Students will then take the research and survey the student body. From the results of the survey, students will draft plans on what they think would sell and see if their ideas can be enhanced using 3D printing.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn how to research trends, survey and compile the results. Students will look at cost effectiveness of products that they will create, and see if the item would be more cost-effective and profitable if created using a 3D printer over other materials. Students will collaborate with each other and their consumers to come up with a viable product that has a high return on investment. Students will learn how to use a 3D printer and how to take care of the printer when it is either being used or stored.
