The goal for our Future Global Leaders is to wear T-shirts that give rising leaders confidence to step into their new role in managing activities during our International Cafe meetings. International Cafe is composed of students who are new to the USA. We meet bi-weekly for check-ins, help with acculturation and we hold discussions as to how they are coping within their new culture. Our school is on the path to becoming a Leader In Me campus. This leadership opportunity goes along with our school-wide goal.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

The International Café’s future leaders have embraced their roles with pride and determination. The transition to a new country can be overwhelming, but these students have seized the opportunity to lead International Café meetings, assist fellow students and contribute to planning future sessions. Their growth in these leadership positions is evident.

After each session, they gather to reflect and brainstorm innovative ideas. They work as a team so that each session runs smoothly and efficiently. Their self-confidence has allowed them to seek additional leadership roles within our school community. Many of them now serve as safety patrols and on the news crew at Calusa Park.

These newcomers not only feel welcomed in our school but have also risen to the occasion showcasing their strengths and skills through their leadership roles.

Thank you for supporting our Newcomers!

Future Global Leaders

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal for our Future Global Leaders is to wear T-shirts that give rising leaders confidence to step into their new role in managing activities during our International Cafe meetings. International Cafe is composed of students who are new to the USA. We meet bi-weekly for check-ins, help with acculturation and we hold discussions as to how they are coping within their new culture. Our school is on the path to becoming a Leader In Me campus. This leadership opportunity goes along with our school-wide goal.

What will be done with my students

While wearing the Future Global Leader T-shirts, 5th graders will pick up and drop off International Cafe participants. This will help distinguish them as a helper to both teachers and students. Leaders will also present certain activities during our International Cafe meetings and assist with passing out and collecting snacks and materials.
Students will use these leadership experiences to help them with the future career goals.

Benefits to my students

Students who are given the opportunity to participate in leadership roles, often step up to the challenge. It is imperative that we offer these opportunities to students joining us from different backgrounds. Students new to the country will gain a sense of confidence and self-esteem. They have experienced many changes in their lives. Helping others will give them a renewed sense of belonging and comfort in their new school community. Because students will feel integrated into the school's community, they will thrive academically.

Budget Narrative

Wearing their FUTURE GLOBAL LEADER T-shirts will give 5th graders a sense of pride and accomplishment in representing International Cafe. Students will feel visible as they take on new leadership responsibilities.
