Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 8

This grant made a HUGE impact on these students! Before this grant, the teacher and I were not comfortable checking books out to students for fear of damage. A whole new world was opened up to these students, simply by purchasing board books. This class now comes in weekly for a read aloud and a book checkout. Providing the opportunity to allow these students to independently choose a book to check out has boosted their self confidence and social skills immensely. The students LOVE the books! They are making connections to the words and the pictures on the pages and are growing by leaps and bounds. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for providing a chance for students to grow!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to provide board books for check out for students who might have difficulty with fine motor skills, allowing them the same independent opportunities to read library book as all students in the school. I strongly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to get books from the media center, and these books will provide an opportunity for every student to be successful in independent reading.

What will be done with my students

Students will check books out for independent reading and enjoyment. This will provide equity to all students on campus, as every child deserves to have the same opportunities, regardless of their abilities.

Benefits to my students

Students in primary modified curriculum classes will be able to check out books from the media center that they can independently enjoy. Many times primary students, as well as students in modified curriculums, are still working on developing fine motor skills. Turning the pages in traditional books can be difficult for them, as the pages are thin and difficult to grasp. By purchasing the same books in a different format, these students will be able to enjoy books much easier. They will also be provided the same opportunities as all students in the school in terms of checking out books independently.

Budget Narrative

All items listed are board books to be purchased for the Media Center. All books on this list currently have copies in different formats in the Media Center. Book prices are all from Amazon.com. Purchased books will be cataloged and made available for student check out.
