My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels comfortable and ready to learn especially the students who struggle to sit and work in the typical classroom chair. To do this, I need flexible seating options.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 43

My students are so grateful for the opportunity to get more comfortable as they work. They look forward to the change from traditional seating and appreciate the privilege of using flexible seating while they work. Many students have expressed using the standing desk or wobble stool helps them focus, be more productive, and even stay awake. Instead of tapping their feet, rocking in their chair, or pacing anxiously, students now use any of the various seating options to move or learn in whatever position makes them most comfortable. My fifth graders love the opportunity to move a bit while they are learning; with the flexible seating, they are able to ‘work through their wiggles’ without being distracting to themselves or others. We are so thankful our grant investors whose generous donation made such an impact in our classroom! Thank you from LTE's 5th graders!!!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels comfortable and ready to learn especially the students who struggle to sit and work in the typical classroom chair. To do this, I need flexible seating options.

What will be done with my students

With flexible seating in my classroom, my students will have different options of seating to choose from whether they are working from their desks, around the room, or at our group table. I need several different types of flexible seating including wobble stools, yoga balls, and standing desks which will be consistently available to students. These styles of seats will allow students to 'work through their wiggles'.

Benefits to my students

Having different flexible seating options will benefit my students because they will be able to work and wiggle at the same time. Wobble stools and yoga balls allow students to safely rock or bounce while working at their desks. Standing desks are useful for students who like to move their feet or struggle to sit. If my students are able to work and wiggle with flexible seating, it will limit distractions with their hands and to other students. Research states that allowing children to move during the day improves on task behavior.

Budget Narrative

I have budgeted for several different options of flexible seating as well as several of each in order for students to have choices and all students have the opportunity to use flexible seating.
