Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 451

A huge thank you to Champions of Learning for your wonderful contribution to Golden Gate Elementary school and our Seagull Squad. I have no idea how we would have done this year without these supplies that are specific to my students with learning disabilities along with my students who need special accommodations. With this grant my students were able to create artwork at their own pace with their abilities. It gave my students who struggle with fine motor skills to be able to create.

Nothing but smiles from GGE’s Seagull Squad when the students got to use their new tools and new fidgets for learning breaks. Each day of art class I try to have the students use a different tool or earn a fidget if they complete a project/step in a project. The fidgets like the pop toys along with the water mats helped students with special needs earn a reward after they did a step-in art. This helped them create a goal, finish a task and get a fidget. Some of my MC3/ MC1 students do not like using paper, or just do not understand what paper is used for. Drawing tablets and the mats help give different options for these students to create without using paper or a texture they do not like. Scissors and hand grips were used in the art room almost every day and even in their classrooms! Students who have trouble holding scissors now have an easier way to cut, same with gripping a pencil. Play dough was also very helpful for students to experiment with it's texture and manipulate with their hands.

I cannot thank you all enough for how much these materials/tools have changed my perspective on teaching and gave my students with specific needs a way to create that was comfortable for them.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this request is to provide Golden Gate Elementary students with modified curriculum the opportunity to create art work on their own and maximize their participation in the art room. With the materials listed students will be able to participate in more tactile based projects and are able to create artwork they can smell/feel and keep forever.

What will be done with my students

My students with disabilities will be able to maximize their time in the art room when coming into art with full classes. The materials donated will be applied to only my MC3 and MC1 students, these are students with modified curriculum who have learning disabilities and might be physically or visually impairment. These materials are adaptive to my students giving them the chance to create artwork and not get frustrated. Hand grips will allow students with physical impairment to hold art supplies, like markers and pencils. Mess proof mats, doodle pads and markers allow students to “get messy” but not actually get messy. Tactical items like playdough, suction cup toys and non toxic paint allow students to feel and manipulate, enhancing their fine motor skills.

Benefits to my students

These materials will help my MC3 and MC1 students problem solve and boost their fine motor skills. Along with enhancing their communication and giving them a chance to express themselves nonverbally. These materials will allow my students to feel successful and give them motivation when entering the art room.

Budget Narrative

All materials will be used towards my MC3 and MC1 classes in art.
