Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 451

Thank you Champions for Learning for funding this grant. My students this year and for the remanding for the remainder of the school year are using fiber, yarn and paper to create weaving projects. At the start of the year and the middle of the school year students had to earn 5 class stars in art to pick clay! This is the first time in over 15 years the Kiln has been used at Golden Gate Elementary School!

Clay and Fiber arts are often looked past when it comes to art at my school. I am so proud and excited for my students that they were given the opportunity to use clay and to use yarn to create art! This grant helped my students understand that not just paper is used in the art world. Other materials as well like clay, fiber and yarn! During the school year each grade level that had 5 stars was able to create a mini sculpture or clay lesson based off the Florida State Standards. Students this year created clay cupcakes, rainbows and animals out of clay. Some of these projects were part of a giant art show we had in April. Another first for our school! GGE had a giant art show to showcase their work throughout the year. Would never have been able to happen without these funds. We appreciate Champions of Learning and thank you for all that you do to help our district!

Right now we are working on fiber/yarn projects and students are so excited and are being challenged to learn this new technique! Enjoy the photos of the past few weeks as students are introduced to weaving with paper first! Next is fiber/yarn.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this request is to provide the students at Golden Gate Elementary the opportunity to create three dimensional works of art. With these materials students will be able to craft with their hands and take a piece of art work home that could last a lifetime.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to shape and manipulate materials using their bare hands like they have never done before. Clay and yarn will be used in each grade level. Kindergarten down to creating small necklace sized Mandalas, clay as the base, tooth picks for designs and yarn to hold the clay in place. Older grade levels will be able to dive deeper with clay and yarn, creating looms out of clay along with coil or pinch pots and adding yarn with in the holes as another decorative touch. Students will be able to use hole punchers to create holes on their paper plate looms for circle weaving, straws to make yarn book markers and plastic cups to create a cup made out of only yarn and rugs with large looms! Students will even be able to explore stitching/sewing using large plastic needles and Burlap fabric or foam trays, diving into embroidery skills.

Benefits to my students

Todays world is very demanding and lacks patience these projects will open the eyes of students showing them the basics on how things were made by hand before technology. Using these materials such as clay, fabric and yarn give my students a chance to dive into skills they can take home and use almost everyday!

Budget Narrative
