I come to work every day with the goal of creating a learning environment for my students that is engaging, exciting and energetic. I want my students to love learning and cultivate a love for reading so big that they can’t wait to walk through the door every day. One way I do this is through the collection of books I make available to my students daily.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 50

Books have the power to transform a classroom regardless of how many students you teach, the size of your class or how big your school is. I moved to a new school this year and my love of books and all things reading is evident by the many bookshelves in my small classroom. Little did I know that during this transitionary year in my school--being in a new building for a short time--that their school library would be packed away in storage! My classroom library has become a place where students in all grades come to find the perfect book. This grant allowed me to not only encourage and grow the readers I have in my middle school grades, but it also put books in the hands of many other students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I come to work every day with the goal of creating a learning environment for my students that is engaging, exciting and energetic. I want my students to love learning and cultivate a love for reading so big that they can’t wait to walk through the door every day. One way I do this is through the collection of books I make available to my students daily.

What will be done with my students

With so many requirements and teacher-chosen reading assignments in middle school, my aim to provide my students with books of all types--graphic novels, historical fiction, fantasy, realistic fiction--they like it then you name it! I have been so blessed over the years to slowly grow a diverse library, with something in it for everyone. My school is in a transitional year with housing and because of this many books are not available to students. I would like to have enough books that any student can come and find a book of interest, at their reading level, to take home and read. The books listed was created by my current middle school students and based on things they expressed interest in reading.

Benefits to my students

These various books will be used to encourage independent reading in my classroom. They will be available for any student to check out and read throughout the year and many are even integrated into our yearly reading and history units.

Budget Narrative

These various graphic novels will be used to encourage independent reading in my classroom. They will be available for any student to check out and read throughout the year and some even integrated into our yearly reading and history units.
