Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 350

These kits were such a hit!  Since I allow the students to explore indepedently, they have yet to design a bridge but they have come up with some other amazing creations!

These kits were more popular with our younger students which was a surprise to me.  I had expected it to be too abstract and difficult for the younger students.  There were a few challenges at first but once they got the hang of it they thrived!

I particularly enjoyed watching the students work together to desgin and problem solve their work.  They were so willing to show others what they had learned by trial and error.

These kits will continue to engage my students for years to come.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will explore their engineering/architectural skills to create a functional bridge structure.

What will be done with my students

Special areas, called Makerspaces, will be set up in the media center. These areas will house a variety of STEM projects. These spaces will allow students to independently or collaboratively create a variety of projects using the supplies and instructions purchased by this grant.

Students will look closer at real-life bridge designs—and make original structures that use the same important elements or they can explore their engineering side and create something totally new!

These spaces will be facilitated by the media specialist but will be designed so that students can create and explore independently or with peers.

Benefits to my students

Learning by doing provides in-depth understanding of concepts with application for real-life scenarios.
Working in pairs or teams, facilitates interactive group problem-solving and teamwork, especially in conjunction with design thinking processes.
These fun projects will get students excited about learning and also build their engineering/architectural skills and knowledge.

Budget Narrative

This kit will be able to be reused over and over to create a variety of projects for years to come.
