Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

The students absolutely enjoyed learning and playing new math games. They became better at adding while playing Yahatzee. They enjoyed learning to put numbers from least to greatest, and greatest to least by playing Racko. Many students learned to count to 100 by playing Chutes and Ladders. The favorite game of the year so far has been Uno. These games have definitely helped them with numbers for math.

Thank you for supporting education.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will learn how to play board games that will enhance their math skills throughout the school year. Students will learn how to put numbers in order from greatest to smallest, and smallest to greatest. Students will learn how to count in order, count by 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's and 6's. Playing these board games will help the students promote stronger leadership skills by taking turns, playing fair, and working with a partner or small group.

What will be done with my students

I will meet with the students that choose board games for their Student Leadership group once a month. We will learn to play different games in small groups that will enhance their math skills.
1. Students will play games in small groups depending on the skill they need to improve at first.
2. Once students learn how to play the different games, they will be able to choose the game that they would like to play.
3. Hopefully, once a month or every other month, I would allow the students to come in before school and make it a game day where they could bring a friend and teach their friend how to play these games.

Benefits to my students

This group activity with enhance their math skills with number recognition, counting on, and counting groups of numbers. This will also help our students learn to interact with other students and learn to be a team player. Students will get to take turns being the Leader of the game and setting it up for the students to play and also be able to explain how to play the game if a new student would like to learn the game.
