Our beloved lower school pet, Dartanian, is growing. He recently moved into a larger enclosure but is in need of some supplies to keep him warm, healthy and happy. Dartanian's home is located in the Science Lab where all students PreK-Grade 5 can visit him and learn about his development, habitat and feeding routines. Our goal is to continue to provide Dartanian with everything he needs in order to make his environment comfortable and to keep him safe and healthy.

Goal

Our beloved lower school pet, Dartanian, is growing. He recently moved into a larger enclosure but is in need of some supplies to keep him warm, healthy and happy. Dartanian's home is located in the Science Lab where all students PreK-Grade 5 can visit him and learn about his development, habitat and feeding routines. Our goal is to continue to provide Dartanian with everything he needs in order to make his environment comfortable and to keep him safe and healthy.

What will be done with my students

Children love having a school pet! Our students will build leadership skills and responsibility as they learn how to care for our school pet. Dart needs to be fed and given fresh water. His enclosure needs to maintain a certain temperature and it needs to be cleaned regularly. Students will learn how to care for Dartanian using the tools and supplies that we are asking for in this grant. In our Science Lab, science lessons about animals come to life with with our school pet to observe and care for.

Benefits to my students

Through having a pet, students learn important values like compassion, empathy, respect and responsibility for other living things. They understand how their actions can affect other living things in a positive way. Animals help relieve stress and anxiety, and regulate breathing and heart rates. A classroom pet can provide peace and calm for many students. We need to update Dartanian's environment and keep it warm and clean, provide him with vitamins and healthful food, and make sure he receives his annual vet visits.

Budget Narrative

The items above will provide everything Dartanian needs in order to thrive in his habitat: from food, to structure enhancements, to Vet visits and supplements.
