Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 175

These science passages have been so helpful to our fifth grade students as they learn their science content. We cannot thank you enough for helping our fifth grade students learn their science content in a fun, meaningful way. We have matched up the passages with fun graphic organizers and hands on activities to really make learning fun for our students. Thank you for all that you do!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide our fifth grade students with hands on activities that go along with our science reading passages.

What will be done with my students

Our students will have passages that they can read about each science standard. Once they have read the passage, they'll participate in a hands on activity that will help them really understand what they're learning.
By having reading passages our students will be able to utilize their reading strategies as well. Our students practice annotating the text where they underline important parts of the passages and write quick notes in the margins.
We utilize many materials in fifth grade science that cannot be reused like balloons, straws, coffee filters, paper plates etc... that help our students understand what we are reading about.

Benefits to my students

Our fifth graders will learn all of their fifth grade science standards and reinforce their reading strategies with these reading passages and hands on activities.

Budget Narrative

All fifth grade students at Herbert Cambridge Elementary and Mike Davis Elementary Schools will benefit from this project!
