Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 200

A huge thank you goes out to Champions for Learning for their invaluable support in funding the grant, "Having a BALL learning to catch." This grant has made a significant impact by providing two class sets of "Toss and Catch Games Sets," ensuring that every student has their own "mitt" to assist them with catching. These "mitts" have been instrumental in developing hand-eye coordination and fostering a sense of fun and success among our students when it comes to catching. This grant helped us in laying a solid foundation for the essential skills of throwing and catching with our prminary students. Champions for Learning truly knocked it out of the park with their funding of this grant, and we are incredibly grateful for their commitment to enhancing our students' learning experiences - we had a ball!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to introduce primary students to skills such as throwing to a target and catching a ball by using “Toss and Catch” game sets.

What will be done with my students

We are requesting two class sets of “Toss and Catch Game Sets” so that every student will have their own “mitt” to assist students in catching. These catch and toss game sets are made of a strong sticky nylon fabric and durable PVC plastic which helps to catch the ball firmly and easily. The sets come with balls that easily stick to the mitts. These balls are lighter than standard baseballs/softballs and will be a good starting place in teaching primary students to throw to a specific target.

Benefits to my students

These mitts will help develop hand-eye coordination ability and arm muscles. The Velcro like surface will help students to catch and increase their confidence with tossing and catching. These balls and mitts will provide a strong foundation for the lifelong skills of throwing and catching.

Budget Narrative

This project will benefit all primary students at Mike Davis Elementary. We are requesting $262.10 for 5 “Toss and Catch” game sets (total of 60 paddles/mitts). Throwing and catching are lifelong skills. These sets will provide students with a good introduction and foundation to catching/throwing skills. These mitts will be enjoyed by students for years to come. The requested amount includes shipping and taxes.
