Our AICE Our school's AICE Travel & Tourism Program has been built over the past four years from 7 students to 75. As we've grown we continue to prioritize many goals in the local travel, tourism, and hospitality industries at the same time serving as ambassadors of our Immokalee High School community. For this grant proposal, we are seeking financial support for the costs of transportation of our approximately 75 students to a local attraction in Naples (the Naples Princess). This organization has been gracious in their generosity--both in the past and currently--by offering a hands-on experience of their business operations as well as the customer focused strategies. Our goal is to provide this opportunity for this year's students so as to enhance their abilities to event plan and describe these experiences in their final assessments which have the potential to earn them college credit.

Goal

What will be done with my students

Annually, AICE Travel & Tourism students attend a day trip to experience the Naples Princess in a variety of ways: as customer, as business operator, as destination marketer, and more. While in attendance students will be able to have discussions with members of the staff and crew to enhance their ability to articulate the fundamentals of these concepts which are at the core of this course's curriculum. These hands-on experiences also help students to complete their final portfolio for the course which requires them to choose, plan, and manage an event by the end of 3rd quarter.

Benefits to my students

The benefits of these experiences are in helping bring the theoretical to the real world. Field trips such as this help to provide our students with examples of local destinations and attractions in order to more effectively plan their own events (required by the course curriculum). In addition, it helps many of our students better understand the reasons why Collier County is a world-class tourist destination and what local options exist for people of all ages to experience our local community.

Budget Narrative

A local charter bus company has estimated the cost of a charter bus for transportation to be approximately $1,200. We continue to be open to other estimates, but that price at present seems to be the most reasonable given our needs and time constraints.
