I am the school counselor and Leadership Coordinator at our school and I am writing this grant on behalf of our entire school community.
Pinecrest Elementary offers 53 different student leadership teams. Each team is on a mission to give back to the community at the school, local, state, national, or world level. Students learn leadership skills and receive character education through student leadership team meeting days that are held twice a month. Some examples of the kinds of teams we offer include (but not limited to) - beautification team, running team, pet support team, safety team, news crew, student lighthouse team, painting team, etc.

The goal of student leadership teams is to empower our students to make positive change within their school community and beyond. Leadership builds confidence and confidence builds competence.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 600

We were so thankful this year that some generous sponsers were able to fund our student leadership teams this year. This provided leadership materials for studnets schoolwide and helped us become a regesitered leadership academy through the company Leader In Me! What a proud moment to be recognized as an official Lighthouse School! I (Ashleigh Dean) am the leadership coordinator and school counselor at Pinecrest Elementary. I am also this year's Golden Apple Recipient. I am so grateful to Champions For Learning and the donors who helped support our mission to provide enriching leadership opportunites for all students. It takes a great team to do great things and because of your support, I am able to implement my best practice of developing a sense of belonging through leadership. You will see some of the pictures below capture this year's greatest highlights that were made possible by this grant.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

All 53 teams have a service project that will be completed by the end of the year. To complete this mission, we are in need of support for materials for each team. It is our dream that every team will be given a budget of $25.00 or more to spend on materials they will need for their teams.

Some examples of these projects include (but are not limited to) the following:

Beautification team - Students will be using paint to create inspiring wall art displays that inspire leadership and model the 7 habits around the campus.

5th Grade Graduation Team - Students will create invitations to parents for Graduation day and will decorate the cafeteria for students on this special day.

Yoga Team - Students learn their letters and sounds through yoga poses, then host a few Yoga days in the morning leading other students in yoga practice to promote healthy and balanced living.

Student Lighthouse Team: Students learn public speaking skills and then lead the school-wide quarterly celebration assemblies on stage. Students serve adult guests that are visiting our campus by welcoming the guests, and by facilitating campus tours.

Benefits to my students

Student Leadership Teams gives students the opportunity to choose an area of passion to learn about and then apply what they have learned to help others. Our school is 99 percent at or below poverty level. Most of our students and families do not have the means to provide their children with extra curricular activities. Student Leadership Teams gives students the opportunity to do something like painting for 40 minutes twice a month and then use the life-skills they learn to paint a wall in the hallway to add beauty to the campus for everyone to enjoy.

At Pinecrest Elementary School, we want to teach our children to be givers and to serve others well with whatever gifts and talents they have, so they can go out into the community and be productive members of society.

Budget Narrative

This money would be distributed equally between all student teams so that each team would get $25.00 to use towards supplies for their mission project.
