Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 350

This grant allowed me to purchase a large selection of books for our new book vending machine.  Each month 2 students from each classroom are awarded golden tokens that allow them to come and choose a book from the machine.  They are recognized for their efforts and achievements in reading.

The wonderful thing about the golden tokens and the vending machine is that the novelty of it is appealing to all grade levels.  All of my students want to be able to get a book from the machine!  It is refreshing to see children excited about getting a new book of their own choosing.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to ensure that when students are rewarded for positive behavior that there are plenty of books for them to choose from in our school's book vending machine.

What will be done with my students

Students earn Vending Tokens for showing positive behaviors and reaching specified goals.
After earning a token they can go to the vending machine and select a book. I am requesting a variety of books for all ages to ensure that there is always something in the machine to appeal to any one of our students.

Benefits to my students

Reading should be fun not a chore or an assignment. Students work hard to earn the tokens and are so excited to "buy" a book from the machine. It has been a huge motivator!
Many of our students come from homes where English is a second language. Books printed in English can be scarce. This program helps us to help our students build a home library with books that they can read and share with their family.

Budget Narrative

This money will stock the machine with approximately 100 books.
