Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 121

The Running Rewards were such a great motivator to get kids out in the morning and completing as many laps as possible. We used the Running Rewards for our Kids on the Go program and students earned a foot for every mile completed. The students enjoyed displaying their feet on their lanyard and were able to keep track of their miles as they worked towards their ultimate goal of a full marathon. The students loved being able to show others how many feet they had earned throughout the program. This was the first year using the Running Rewards and our second year doing the KOTG program. Last year we only had about four students make it to the final mile. This year we had ninteen. The program itself is great for our students to motivate them to get outside and excersize. Thank you for your contribution that allowed us to provide this wonderful motivator for our students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to motivate students to reach each mini goal which will get them to the final goal of 26 miles.

What will be done with my students

This year is our second year participating in Kids on the Go and we will be using these rewards as an incentive to encourage students to join our running club and work towards their goal each week. We meet twice a week before school and students walk or run as many 1/4 mile laps as they can. Each lap is tracked through an app and the ultimate goal is to make it to the Final Mile celebration in April or May. The charms and lanyards will be used to reward students for the miles they complete and they will be able to display them proudly on their lanyard.

Benefits to my students

Through the running club, students learn about healthy choices as well as get the opportunity for exercise, goal setting, confidence building, and building positive relationships with peers who share a common interest. The charms and lanyards will help students keep track of the miles they have completed and give them a visual reminder of the goals they are working towards. They will also be something the students can wear with pride to show others what they have accomplished.
