Students are engaged and loving their new books to read! We read every day and I can hear the students using new describing words and longer sentences. They are also more engaged with each other, sharing their books and explaining pictures to each other.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to develop a love for reading in all my students through daily book interactions.

What will be done with my students

Students will read board books on the rug every day after snack time. They will share books, turn the pages together, look at the pictures and try to tell the stories. The teacher will read a few books every day until students have heard all the books. This is an every day all year long activity.

Benefits to my students

The students will learn that words and pictures tell stories and be able to share these stories with each other. After hearing the books every day, they will learn to retell the stories to the teachers and their friends. This daily reading activity will build a lifelong reading habit for my students at an early age.

Budget Narrative

The grant would cover the cost of purchasing these sets of books for my students to read every day. Since my students are just learning to use books, the books can get damaged and need to be replaced.
