Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 45

Your support and contribution to the Reading Lunch Bunch initiative was more then I even expected. I am thrilled to share that our lunch bunch groups have experienced tremendous growth, with the number of students increasing from 10 per grade level to approximately 15-18 students.

It has been truly heartwarming to witness the students enthusiastically participating in our extra reading skill building sessions during their lunchtime. Not only have they shown improvement in areas such as phonics, fluency, and comprehension, but the most rewarding outcome has been observing their confidence soar as they discover the joy of reading about topics they are passionate about. I am delighted to report that all students have been actively engaged, eagerly competing for prizes, and receiving rewards for their dedication and hard work. Your support has played a significant role in fostering a love for reading among our students, and I am grateful for your partnership in making Reading Lunch Bunch a resounding success.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to obtain resources for our students to use during lunch bunch to accelerate their learning achievements.

What will be done with my students

A small tarA small group of 10 students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be participating in a lunch bunch learning time. Twice a week students will bring their lunch to our learning lab and be provided with targeted support to give them that extra boost they need to reach their grade level expectations in reading.

This is a time for students to receive instruction and get targeted practice on skills that they have missed in previous grades or need extra practice with. The first day of the week that we meet will be focused on phonics and vocabulary skills. The second day will be on comprehension skills and strategies. We will spend this time using engaging activities, songs, and creative games to make it fun.

Students will receive a card and will earn a sticker for every time they show up. After attending five sessions they will be able to go to the prize bin.

All of these kiddos have to get a permission slip signed and make a choice to be apart of this group! I’m so proud of each of them for making the decision to give up their lunch time to do some extra learning!

Benefits to my students

Small group lunch bunch time provides additional instruction from another educator in the building whom they can connect with and develop their reading skills in a safe place with learners on/near their level. During lunch bunch students are given the opportunity to increase reading, writing, test taking, and study skills at their instructional level. Our hope is that our reluctant readers will become more motivated and find enjoyment in reading.
