Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 135

My second semester Art students were enthusiastic and excited to create designs for the rock garden.

The learning goal for this project was that through rock garden explorations, the students will be able to explore Art, nature, science, math and a variety of skills such as counting & planning.

Essential questions for this projected consisted of:

What is the purpose of a rock garden?    To create an engaging display of rocks.

What is the meaning of kindness rocks?  A painted rock(kindness stone) is simply a rock that has been decorated with an inspirational message.  If you take the time to be kind, it can make all the difference in someone else's life.

It truly has been a great experience for all of my semester students to be involved with this project.

Thank you on behalf of Manatee Middle Art program,

Maryann Clark, Art teacher

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The Kindness Rocks Project has one simple goal, to promote random acts of kindness in the shape of painted rocks with inspirational words!

What will be done with my students

The students, teachers and staff all need an outlet and an opportunity to show support for one another. This rock garden project is just one component of our school’s philosophy.
“My school motto has always been ‘It’s Grow Time. This can be described in a variety of ways. We’re family’. We’re all here for each other, we all stick up for each other, we rely on each other and we trust each other” etc.
This project is a simple way to make a big impact that could include the most people possible, bringing them together and creating positive awareness.

Benefits to my students

My students will benefit from this project because often times at the school, all it takes to lift the spirits of the students having a bad day, or make students in a good mood be in an even better one -- is a simple walk outside to the garden: Or in this instance, a rock garden on our school campus.
The rock garden is a way to possibly help students through a tough moment, a tough afternoon, a tough day.
This project encourages pride and respect.
The lesson: “Take the time to be kind. You can make all the difference in someone’s life”
