Goal

My goal is to bring the joy of pickle ball to students at Manatee elementary and help students improve their critical thinking skills, create collaborative team building times, increase self esteem and allow students at any level of academics and ability to play a sport that is all inclusive.

What will be done with my students

We are a strong Leader in Me school. We have student clubs once a month where the students get to participate with all different grade level students in a common activity. My club will consist of students in 2nd grade through 5th grade. These students will learn the basics of pickle ball, how to play the game, keep score and so much more. The benefits will out weigh the actual playing of the sport. During this club students will participate in partners and as an individual to learn the sport. Therefore students learn that their own ability to play is not going to always be enough to make it through a game, they need to work as a team to be able to play a game effectively. This is an invaluable life skill.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn through the various drills, activities and playing of the game. Students will not only gain the health benefits from
pickleball. These students will gain valuable critical thinking skills that will transfer back into the classroom, the quickness of their basic reactions to the ball will be a mirror image of their quickness in their learning. They will be motivated to punch themselves to learn the rules of the game and help their partners as well. This collaborative type sport will also be invaluable as our teachers use varied collaborative structures in the classroom. Students will gain social and emotional benefits as well, this is a problem solving sport as well as a sport that all are included in playing no matter your level of understanding or athletic ability. It is all inclusive, this benefits our students and therefor creates a safe environment where they learn to support one another and feel supported as well.
