Goal

Our goal is to obtain resources for family event mornings that promote academic success and build family culture.  

What will be done with my students

Throughout the year we hold various family morning events to further build relationships with our most important stakeholders - our students and their families. Our goal is to provide opportunities for our parents/guardians to get involved in their child’s education on campus and show an interest in their child’s learning. These events help create a sense of shared responsibility with staff and teachers to meet educational goals and encourage student growth. Materials asked for will be used at our family events throughout the year to help foster a community with our families by providing activities for them to do together that strengthen communication, critical thinking skills, and collaboration. We hope to have a turnout of at least 100-200 students and their families.



Activities:
Straw rockets: Each student and their family member create their own paper rockets and then launch them using straws- such a great way for kids to explore science!

Rock painting: kindness stone, is simply a rock that students and their family members can decorate with an inspirational message. The point of this stone painting is to sprinkle positivity around your community. Once they create one, the idea is to leave it somewhere for another person to find and enjoy in our global garden.

Puzzled with math and reading: Making homemade puzzles help students to practice their fine motor, visual perceptual, and critical thinking skills. This activity to a make and take for students and their parents to create based on whatever subject their child needs more practice with.

Create a bookmark: As family members learn about new ways to engage their child in learning at home they can create a bookmark for reference at home. Students and their family can also design their own bookmark to help build reading and math fluency.

Stickers for anxiety: Every year we host a parent morning on test anxiety and strategies to help relieve those anxious belly butterflies. Each family will be able to take one sticker home to help them practice calming down and refocusing.

Instant Photos: Students and their family members will be able to grab a photo at our phot booth to capture those special moments.

Blank keychains: Creating a math and reading reference keychain tool.  

Benefits to my students

Research has shown that students tend to perform better academically when their families are actively involved in their education thus improving academic outcomes. This is especially true for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who may lack the resources and support than affluent peers.
