Goal

Students will be more motivated to achieve more on the ALEKs math program. They will receive a small snack for every 5% of mastery over their pie they achieve. All snacks will be purchased from the Dollar Tree chain of stores, with a projected cost analysis is provided based on each box of snacks' cost of $1.25.

What will be done with my students

ALEKs is a program used across math grade levels in Collier County that uses adaptive intelligence to help fill learning gaps in a students' math history. Despite its personalized approach, students struggle to find motivation to complete problem sets on the platform, which contributes to lack of proficiency over previous grades’ content necessary to advance in future math courses.

I aim to remedy this situation by providing snacks to students for every 5% continued progress over their pie. Students will receive one small snack for every 5% increase in their ALEKs program completion or proficiency. For example, if a student reaches 5%, they will receive one snack, and if they achieve 10%, they will receive two snacks, and so on.

Benefits to my students

Hard working students will feel instantly rewarded with their current progress. All students will feel rewarded in small increments, without competition to each other. That is, there are no "losers" with the prizes, only individual growth.

Budget Narrative

I have chosen three types of snacks for students to choose from based on preferences in the past. Each box contains a different amount of snacks, but they average to 13 individually wrapped snacks each. I assume students will have the opportunity to obtain about 14 snacks each (in other words, an increase of 70% mastery for each student).

I currently have 62 students on my roster, but more students often enroll before the end of the year. Therefore, I budgeted for 70 students. $1.25 * 70 * 14 (prizes for each student) / 13 (average snacks per box) = $94.23, rounded up.
