Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 35

The susnshine state books were used throughout the year to engage students in the first grade classroom. The students had a wonderful time exploring these books and using them to increase their reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension. Students also read these books with fourth and fifth grade buddies during our Catholic Schools Week celebrations. Students were also able to participate in voting for their favorite book using the real Collier County voting booths. In first grade students truly move from emerging readers to independent readers and this selection of books helped them to be successful on this journey.

Thank you so much for all you do to support teachers and students in the classroom!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To purchase the 2023-24 Sunshine State Youth Reading Awards Jr. Books for our first grade classrooms.

What will be done with my students

The books will be used for students to read independantly to increase their comprehensiona and reading fluency. As well as to meet their independent reading goals throughtout the school year. Students will read the books and be assessed on their comprehension of each book. These books can be used this year and then continue to be used for future first grade classes too.

Benefits to my students

These books will allow my students access to high quality literature that will increase their independent reading skills. This would also help us meet the standards of having students read literature at their grade level. These books will support our two first grade classrooms of 34 students for this school year, as well as for future first grade students in the years that follow.

Budget Narrative

We would love at least 4 copies of each title which would then bring the budget to aproximately $743. This would allow the students to have access to two books on this list at a time. The above price list was based on one copy only and compiled from Amazon prices.
