Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 50

Our students count down the days each month until it is Art Club Day!  Each month, we use different materials we received from the grant to teach the students different art forms.  It is always a surprise when the students walk into the art room to see what materials they get to use.  The first month, they learned to fold paper to make basic Origami creations.  Some students fell in love with Origami and asked to take paper home, where they practiced making more advanced models.  The next month, the students were given paper, colored pencils, and markers, and they used their imaginations to design and create whatever they imagined.  This month, we showed them how to use stained glass to design suncatchers to hang in their classroom windows.  Next month, we will use sketching and shading pencils to teach them different drawing techniques.  Our school is thrilled with how much the students love our different clubs that are based on the student's interests.  Next year, we will begin the clubs at the beginning of the school year instead of waiting until the second semester so the students have more time to explore and show their talents.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide our students with the opportunity to use their imagination and create original pieces of art.

What will be done with my students

Shadowlawn Elementary is a Leader In Me School that believes every child possesses unique strengths. We want to encourage our students to find that strength and help them build self-confidence. We will do this by encouraging our students to join one of our Leadership Clubs. Students who join my club will meet monthly to create projects using various art techniques. I want to make sure the students who are involved in my club have the materials and supplies they need to be successful.

Benefits to my students

This club will allow students to relax, talk to their friends, and be creative. This will be something they can look forward to all month. Clubs encourage students to be involved at school and find their interests and talents.

Budget Narrative

Our club needs $312.19 to purchase drawing paper, drawing pencils, double-sided markers, colored pencils, origami paper, and other art supplies.
