What will be done with my students

This activity will be a year long initiative where prizes will be given out on a weekly, monthy and quarterly basis. While the prizes will extend throughout this school year only, the Wheel of Fun I am requesting will be used beyond the 2024-2025 school year.
Students in intensive math use an online program, ALEKS, that focuses on closing the learning gap for students, on an individual basis. Students go through the program starting with foundational skills they are personally lacking, working towards reviewing and mastering on grade level material. While the hope is that students will be or become intrinsically motivated to advance their learning and understanding of the mathematical content, the reality is extrinsic rewards are also a big motivator.

Benefits to my students

All students in my 8th grade Pre-Algebra course will be setting weekly, monthly and quarterly goals for the ALEKS program based on their own abilities and then the growth they make using the program. Each time a student achieves their goal, they get to spin the "Wheel of Fun." The rewards for the weekly, monthly and quarterly goals become more enticing as the students reach each one.
While the students are motivated to continue progressing through the ALEKS program, they will be closing the learning gap of foundational and grade level skills they are lacking. What a great opportunity to celebrate success and growth of knowledge.

Budget Narrative

The tabletop Wheel Spinner comes with different sized wheel faces allowing for the number of prizes to vary when needed. The spinner is portable and can be written on using dry erase markers.
Rewards listed with amounts and price per item. The final item is listed as "various other rewards" which allows for other prizes to be purchased based on availability and cost. This final listing also allows room to purchase more items throughout the year based on need, including addition of new students to the class.
