Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Kevin and Nancy Walls Brigitte Thompson Parents - $287.50
The goal of this project is to help students with their reading and writing skills while helping animals in need. They will be helping their community while writing poetry and letters.
Community Partnerships - Gulfshore Playhouse, Naples Players, Naples Zoo, Botanical Gardens, etc.
Students will virtually "adopt" a shelter animal to help him/her get adopted. The students will write about their animal. They will also illustrate their work. Both pieces will be laminated and then given to the Humane Society to hang on the animal's enclosure. At the end of the year, the class will take a field trip to see their work and meet their animals.
Many students love to read poetry but do not enjoy writing it. This project helps them to gain the confidence and skills they need to write beautiful poetry. The students will type their writing on their own for printing. Connecting writing to an animal in need, makes writing worthwhile. By adding the illustration piece, it makes the writing come to life. Visiting the shelter makes this project meaningful and valuable.
All the supplies will be used to create the writing and illustration pieces. The bus is for a field trip to and from the Humane Society of Naples.
