The goal of this grant is to fund our Leader In Me programing. In the year 2020, Pinecrest Elementary School became a Leadership Academy for the first time and we received our first 'A' school grade. In the past, Pinecrest Elementary had never achieved above a 'C' school grade. We put systems in place and used the Leader In Me curriculum to teach students how to become leaders and to take charge of their own learning. Since the implication of Leader In Me, our students have found academic success and it has changed our school culture to become a more positive place for all stakeholders! Due to budget cuts, this will be our last school year as a Lighthouse Leadership Academy if we do not find funding to support leadership education by the 2025-2026 school year. Please consider supporting our young student leaders by helping us maintain our success!

What will be done with my students

1.) 15 - 20 minute leadership lessons for all students daily

2.) Goal setting, and tracking for students

3.) Bi-weekly "Sharpen the Saw days" where students earn (through positive behavior and academic achievement) an activity of their choice to attend for 30 minutes.

4.) Provides over 53 different student leadership team opportunities to students. Cheerleading, Boys-to-Bowties, Pet Support, Kindness, Gardening, Life Skills, and the Cooking team are just a few examples of the types of teams we offer during school hours.

5.) Parent Lighthouse meetings provided monthly to teach parents about the leadership education we are implementing so they can practice at home.

6.) Monthly staff trainings to grow our teacher leaders

7.) Access to the Leader In Me website that has an abundance of resources to use with students and staff

Benefits to my students

Leadership education helps to grow students' confidence which then grows their competence. We are proud to be an 'A' school because that means that our students are learning. However, we also see student who are growing in their abilities to be creative thinkers, who take charge of themselves and lead others. They can set goals and achieve them, sometimes even exceed them! These are important life skills that are difficult for even adults to master and our kids are doing it and getting positive outcomes. The Leader In Me program costs $5,000.00 a year and we have about 600 students enroll year. So for just $8.00 per student per year this is more than worth it!

Budget Narrative

The Leader In Me program costs $5,000.00 a year. When that money is divided by the number of students we have (about 600) it costs about $8.00 per student per year to purchase this program! We are hopeful to receive this grant and then do some fundraising to offset the rest of the cost so that we can continue being a Lighthouse school and students can continue receiving leadership education.

Thank you so much for your consideration!

Love,
Mrs. Ashleigh Dean, M.Ed.
