This grant is focusing on the opportunity for our Cooking and Gardening Leadership Clubs. Since students have shown such strong interest in these clubs in previous years, we would like to create an authentic environment for our students to experience and learn both cooking and gardening skills.
This grant will help with upfront costs of supplies and then be reused in upcoming years as we continue to provide these opportunities for our students.

What will be done with my students

This grant will support our Gardening Club and Cooking Club supplies. To create a more authentic experience for our students, we would like to purchase gardening shovels and rakes for the students to use and have their own hands-on experiences each month. To create a safe and healthy environment for our cooking club, we would like to purchase aprons, placemats, gloves and food containers.

Benefits to my students

As a Leader in Me Lighthouse school, our mission is to recognize individual genius, build confidence, and create leaders. One opportunity that we use to follow our mission is to hold monthly leadership clubs school-wide. Students use their voice and take a survey to select their top choices in which clubs they'd like to participate in. Each year they have the opportunity to experience two different clubs (one per semester), where they meet once per month during school hours.
Our staff members have worked hard in creating opportunities for our students that have a piece built in to serve others, whether it's within the school or community. In addition to the life-skills that students are learning in these particular clubs, students learn to cook for others by making treats for the staff members or sharing their produce with the community.
Your support in purchasing these supplies will help us create authentic environments for our students to learn these skills.
