Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 400

Students were able to engage with new content by connecting the hexagons and describing ways our Constitutional vocabulary and symbols were related. It allowed for cooperative experiences and deep discussion about the connections they were making with recently acquired content knowledge. The students also analyzed ways in which prior learning was connected to new ideas and content background knowledge from earlier units.

The hexagons are used frequently for review or to expose students to new content throughout the year. They love seeing how many connections they can make as well as learning from other groups how they have connected the tiles. There have also been friendly competitions to see who can make the “best” connections.

These tiles are well suited for the civics classroom and will used for many years to come.

Goal

Students will interact with Constitutional hexagons to reinforce content knowledge. These manipulatives help students engage with key terms to fully absorb the information presented at a deeper level through collaborative and kinesthetic learning.

Category

What will be done with my students

Each set of hexagons has 16 definitions, 16 pictures and 16 terms. Students will work in collaborative groups to arrange the tiles to make connections. This meets many FLDOE requirements and suggested best practices for civic education.

Benefits to my students

Students will get a deep dive into Constitutional content. These tiles will help cement terms and concept through tactile experiences. This will be especially helpful to differentiate content and engage students. These sets are reusable and will be perfect for small or large group instruction.
